A little crabby

We finally got around to celebrating our birthdays last weekend. When you have a few good friends and beer around, what else do you bring to the party? We had a coupon for Maryland Blue Crab and thought this would be the perfect place for it! I had no idea how many crabs were in a half bushel but let me tell you the box was huge!

We headed out to Left Hand to meet up with everyone. We happened to be the Imbibers of the Month for November so we were treated to 25 ounce mugs of our favorite beers (which we get to enjoy all month) to go with the crab. And since the crabs were whole, it was a messy job! I only snapped a few pictures because I was too covered in lunch to much up my camera. I don’t think I have ever pulled apart my own crab but I was a pro by the end.CAM00419

By the end, we were all covered in Old Bay and Crab meat. Even though it was November, the heaters above us kept us nice and warm and the sun was out so it was a perfect day!  It wasn’t a milestone birthday but it was a great excuse to get together with friends!  Happy belated birthday!

Thanks Paige! Time for a little Sunshine Award

Last week the lovely Paige nominated me for a little Sunshine Award.

Here are the Rules:

1. Include award logo in a post or on your blog.
2. Link to the person who nominated you.
3. Answer 10 questions about yourself.
4. Nominate 10 bloggers to receive the award and ask them 10 questions.

And here we go!

1. do you believe in aliens? why or why not.

There has to be something out there, right???  Would be pretty crazy to think we were the only things around!

2. if you could do ANYTHING in the world and have that be your career and your skills, paycheck, or anything else was not an object.. what would you do?

I would love to spend my time traveling and learning about beer.  I’m completely intrigued by it.  The fact that monks brewed it to keep monasteries open and we brew it today for enjoyment.  Incredible!

3. When you were little, what did you want to be when you grew up?

First I wanted to be a lawyer, then a medical researcher, and then I wanted to be a pastor for a while… Definitely different from what I am doing now!

4. what’s for dinner tonight?

Tonight is chicken stirfry.  Great reminder to get the chicken out to defrost!

5. what was the most fabulous vacation you have ever been on in your entire life?

Barbados was the best!  I went on my own and had an amazing time living the island life!  Some day I will have to tell you the story of my beach day where I found my favorite cocktail of all time!

  6. if you HAD to give up one of your senses (touch, taste, sight, hearing, or smell) which would it be?

Smell is probably what I would choose as long as my taste stays in tact!  The smell of nasty garbage is something no one should have to suffer.

7. Favorite TV show?

My favorite show of all time (right now) has to be Six Feet Under.  Dexter didn’t due Michael C. Hall justice.

8. why did you start blogging?

I wanted to share pictures and stories with friends and family who were too far away.  It’s such a great way to communicate with those I care about by really taking the time to edit photos and thoughtfully put together posts about what we have been up to!

9. what was the last compliment you received and what was the last one you paid to someone?

The last compliment I received was that I was totally organized and ahead of the game!  The last compliment I gave out was to a co-worker with a fantastic new haircut!

10. If you could live anywhere in the world, where would it be?

I would move to Barbados (see question 5) and take up island living!

As for my nominations!

3. Favorite book of all time?

4. Move you watch over and over and over again?

5. What is the farthest you have been from home?

6. What was your favorite childhood food/

7. If you could learn to do anything, what would it be?

8. What is the kindest thing anyone has done for you?

9. Why did you start your blog/

Friday Five

Can you believe it’s Friday?  The Husband couldn’t believe how long this week was but I think it kind of flew by.  I was busy at work and at home and I am ready for the weekend.  I’ve got a few little adventures in mind for the weekend but I think it’s going to be pretty low key.  Just wanted to pass along the things that made me smile this week.

First up, the new album from The Civil Wars.  I fell into their music on Spotify and I can’t stop listening.  When I heard that a new album was on the way, I was pretty excited.  And they didn’t disappoint.  The opening song on the album is incredible!  Definitely going to be purchasing this one to listen to in the car!

We had dinner with these guys this week!  The Husband and I have always struggled to find couple friends and these two are great!  We had a mellow pasta night at our house.  It’s nice to relax with friends!  If you are in the area, please check out their website for show dates.  If you’re not in Colorado, you can find music on their site and on Spotify!

I am a self professed TV show binger.  I had stumbled across a few recommendations for “Once Upon a Time” but hadn’t taken the effort to find it.  Husband found the first season for me and we have devoured the entire first season.  While I roll my eyes at some of the storylines, overall I am captivated.  However, we watched the first episode of season 2 last night and I was slightly disappointed.  Hopefully the story picks up!

I saw an interesting infographic this week Work and Stress.  If you read my post yesterday, you know that this is something that I struggle with.  There are some great incentives on this graphic to keep your work stress to a minimum.

And finally, I saw this story and had a good chuckle!  Kathryn Stockett (author of The Help) got an interesting confirmation number from Delta this week.  Kind of like getting 666 on your license plate, right?

Well, that’s it for me!  I will be sharing more of our Colorado Springs Beer Extravanganza on Monday and check out my Instagram to see what exciting things I’m up to this weekend!

What a weekend!

So this weekend, we had some family in town. What I love about family visits is that we get to be tourists in our own town. Within an hour of their arrival, we were off to City Star to enjoy tasty beers and Quirky Country Music Bingo with Sharon Glassman and Grant McIntosh. As the Husband’s family is West Virginia based, it was easy to recognize the songs and sing along! We had a blast.

We also did some mountain exploring. No hiking this weekend but some great pictures of the last bits of snow. Can’t wait to get back to Brainard Lake and do a little hiking this summer.

There was some adventure (a lost phone) and some soreness (I jogged/walked the BolderBoulder) but we had an amazing time and I can’t wait to explore our hometown with them this summer.

Do you ever play tour guide? Where do you like to take your out of town guests? I love to take them to food trucks and see what they pick!

Definitely will be sharing my BolderBoulder experience later on this week!

Blown away by Blend 2013

It’s really hard to sum up my feelings on the great gathering that happened in Park City, UT this weekend. Last year at Blend I was shy and felt like a fish out of water. This year, I knew more people and realized that it’s ok to just be me. I showed up and was greeted by the lovely ladies who put this amazing event together (Thank you Lindsay, Janetha, and Katie!). I’d been in the car for what seemed like forever so I was off to my room to freshen up. When I walked into our room for the weekend, I was floored. If you are in need of a place to stay in Park City, treat yourself to the Hyatt Escala. I would definitely consider living in this hotel full time if they would have me.

Once I freshened up, I met my roommates and we headed down for cocktails and more hugs and re-acquainting. I had decided to sign up for a random roommate and I was so glad that I did. I met 4 amazing ladies who I wouldn’t have met otherwise. We had an amazing weekend getting to know each other and hanging out. We definitely need to find a way to get together again before Blend next year! It was nice to run into familiar faces, both from friends I have met before and those that I have read.

Meighan, Krista, Me, Maria, and Kim

What I take away from the Blend (besides the incredible swag and sore muscles) is the incredible sense of community. Everyone at the retreat comes from different places geographically and socially but we all manage to find some common ground. Can’t wait to read the rest of the recaps going up for Blend 2013!

A few more pictures!

One Word

I’ve seen this idea floating around for a few weeks and I love it! We have had such a whirlwind few weeks that this was the best way to share the friend love from this weekend!

*The first two pictures were borrowed from Amy (Moenning) Boland! Thanks!

Let the countdown begin

So ready to get this party started!! Everyone arrives tonight and tomorrow to celebrate our amazing friends getting married on Saturday! And I am so excited to host a group of lovely ladies at our house for a party and some drinks after dinner tomorrow. Our house was still a bonafide disaster area when I left for work today and I am hoping we can pull it together in 5 hours.

I swear there is a floor (and an air mattress) under there! At least The Husband’s office is done and so is most of the kitchen so it’s just the rest of the house….

If we don’t get everything done, we’ll just have to put up this sign on the door!
