A simple appetizer plate and a giveaway!

A few weeks back I had the opportunity to visit Fresca Foods and 34 Degrees.

We got the opportunity to see the super secret process of how these ultra thin crackers are made and we were even able to try some brand new, not even available yet flavors.  If everything goes according to plan, these 2 new flavors should be available to snack on later this summer.  The best part of my visit was bringing home the snacks to share with my family.

We regularly have the Husband’s parents over for dinner and I thought a quick appetizer plate would be a great way to round out the Chicken Ceasar salads!  I ran out for some supplies and got started.

One of the best part of these crackers is that they go with everything!  They are thin but sturdy crackers so they can hold up to all kinds of toppings.  I had all four flavors to sample but my favorite was definitely the rosemary!

I laid out a few samples of cucumbers and goat cheese on wheat and salami, cheese, and tomato on the natural.  Of course, I just put all of the options on some plates and let everyone create what they wanted.  We had a great time trying different flavors and combinations.  The 34 Degree crackers were definitely the star and we polished off most of the samples.

Flipping out

Sadly, this is not a post about my favorite show on Bravo and the crazy team I wish I were a part of…

But not so sadly, it is a post about my new favorite snack!! I had seen these pop up on the Chobani site and couldn’t wait to try them out. I always add something to my yogurt to give it texture so this was everything I needed in one package. Luckily, I was able to try them out at Expo West a few weeks back and I finally found a few flavors at my local grocery store. I’ve definitely put in a request to get the rest in ASAP as everyone single one sounds great.

In particular, I can’t wait to find the Key Lime. Such a great treat for the summer time. I am hoping to try freezing these and adding the mix-ins once it starts to get hard. I think that this will make a great Saturday morning breakfast out on the patio. While there are a few that more calories than the rest, there is definitely nothing out of the realm of normal snack/light breakfast fare.

What’s even better is that Chobani wants to share with you! As the Flip products can still be a little tough to get your hands on, we want to send you a case. You can use the Rafflecopter below to enter! I will pick a winner this weekend and let you know on Monday! Happy snacking!

This post was full of my own opinions and not solicited by Chobani.  Chobani will be providing the prize to our winner.

We interrupt your regularly scheduled posting: (giveaway)

For a giveaway!  Monday is usually Suds days but today I’m switching it up!

Back before I was a blogger or even involved in the healthy/natural products categories, my mother in law brought some chips with her on a road trip and I was sold! They were the basic potato PopChips!  How do you pop a chip you ask?  From the company

“popping is how we turn our naturally delicious ingredients into our tastier and surprisingly healthier popped potato, tortilla and popped corn chips. we start with the finest ingredients, add a little heat and pressure, and pop! it’s a chip. in fact, popping our potato, tortilla and popped corn popchips is almost as much fun as eating them. (we said almost.)”

I love having a snack on hand that if you are watching a movie with your love and all of a sudden you notice the bag is empty, you don’t have to feel too bad!  I love PopChips as a snack in my lunch to take care of my afternoon need for a salty snack.  I was lucky enough to have the company send me a whole box of perfect for lunch size bags to try!  There are so many great flavors!  I can’t say enough great things about these things!pop1

As I soon found out, Jillian Michaels is also a huge fan and wanted to share some great tips for snacking right.  PopChips and Jillian Michaels also want to send one of you an autographed copy of her latest book!

thin for life book-cover

it’s all about balance.

eating three balanced meals (every four hours) with a snack between lunch and dinner is key.  reach for a healthier snack like carrot sticks and hummus, fresh fruit, or curb salty cravings with tasty snacks such as popchips or almonds and dried cranberries.

just because it’s not fried, doesn’t mean it’s not delicious!

if you are in the mood to nosh, replace fried potato chips with a healthier alternative that still will satisfy that salty crave.   popchips are a great and my favorite snack option! they taste delicious and have less than half the fat of fried chips and only 100 calories in the single serve bag.

grab a buddy.

it’s a fact that you will achieve greater success when you have the support of those closest to you.  so get your friends together to support each other in being healthier in 2013.

Now it’s your turn to try them out!  I will pick a winner on Thursday!  Who wants a month’s worth of PopChips AND Jillian’s new book?

a Rafflecopter giveaway

Disclosure: I received a case of popchips in exchange for hosting this review & giveaway, but all opinions are my own. I only host giveaways for products I really like and believe in. The giveaway prizes are being provided by popchips.

A Tasty Treat on the go: Sambazon Smoothies

I was contacted by Sambazon to try out their new smoothie products.  We have used their basic Acai juice in a lot of our smoothies so I thought that this was a great opportunity. IMG_1860[1]

I am always looking for quick breakfast and road trip options.  I had a little bit of a tough time tracking them down but once I did find them at Whole Foods we were set.  I grabbed the Supergreens smoothie for the car trip this weekend and the Energy option for a work snack in the afternoon.  The Husband tried out the Vanilla Acai Protein smoothie.  Of the two that I tried, I really liked the Energy flavor.  For some reason I was expecting something either real thick or real gritty but it was neither.  I was pleasantly surprised when it was only a little thicker than normal juice and no grit at all.  The flavor was great and the calorie count wasn’t that bad either.  Check out their website for the full nutrition label.  Overall, for the price I really think that this could be something I keep on hand for a just in case option.IMG_1858[1]

Sambazon has been kind enough to offer a reader to try their smoothies as well.  They would like to send one person some vouchers to try the smoothies.  The winner will also receive a cute wooden bowl and spoon with the Sambazon logo.  Great for your desk at work!  To win, leave a comment letting me know what keeps you on the go!

I will pick a winner on December 26th!

Happy Friday!

While I would love to post a lovely Wineday Friday post for you, I am still in the process of finishing up the pictures for our Sonoma trip.  I am hoping that over the weekend, I will be able to finish.  We have been pretty busy this week and I have a feeling that this weekend will be no different.  The Husband has his mind made up that we are brewing this weekend so that will take up a good portion of an afternoon.  We also want to check out the mountains this weekend and see all of the changing colors on the first weekend of the fall.

As promised, I said I would pick a JavaBites winner today.  So here we go, into the randomizer…

Congrats, Meghan!!  Please email me at kemerselis (at) gmail (dot) com with your info!

And with that, I bid you a fantastic weekend!

What gets you going? (and a giveaway)

What does it take to get you out of bed in the morning?  A small child, the smell of a great breakfast, a good run, or as Folgers would suggest, a good cup of coffee?  Well, for me, I would say it’s either Maggie ready for a morning gulp of water or me getting ready for a morning gulp of coffee.  While I am not like a cartoon where the mere scent of coffee lifts my sleeping body out of bed and to the kitchen I am definitely in need of coffee before any major decisions are made.  When I can, I love to get a latte from my favorite coffee shop but those have to be more of a treat and less of a habit.

A few weeks back, I was approached by someone who has the most incredible product I have seen.  This product turns a regular cup of dark black coffee into a tasty, slightly sweet, breakfast delight.  What I’m talking about is Javabites, a biscotti like cookie.  That’s right, a cookie!  Actually two cookies.

Each package of Javabites cookies is about 100 calories and they are all natural.  They are made locally (in Colorado) and can be found at many of our local coffee haunts.  These cookies come in several flavors; Almond Mocha, Chocolate Chip Espresso, Cinnamon Cappuccino, White Chocolate Mocha Latte, and White Chocolate Vanilla Latte.

I would definitely say that the White Chocolate Vanilla Latte is my favorite.  There is just flavor to make it wonderful!  As I said before, they are less of a cookie texture and more of a biscotti texture so they are perfect for dipping in your favorite mug!  I would guess they would also be great with a good cup of cocoa on a weekend.

The people at Javabites want to share this local Colorado treat with you.  The winner of this giveaway will get a free box of their favorite flavor.  I’ll pick a winner on Friday!  Good luck!

To Enter: Leave me a comment telling me which flavor you want to try!

Bonus entries:

1. Follow me on twitter @kemerselis and leave a comment telling me you did!

I was provided samples of Javabites cookies to review but all opinions are my own.
