Goodbye 2014!

I just wanted to stop in and bid 2014 farewell. After a few quick minutes of reflection, I can finally say this year wasn’t that bad. A few bumps and bruises, a few small successes, and a ton of great trips! We have more family living in Colorado than this time last year as well!

My wish for 2015 is that we continue on this positive trajectory. We have some great trips planned and I have some great ideas in the works. Hoping it all works out!

May your 2015 be as fruitful as you need it to be!

Five Friday things!

#1 Most important piece of business this week is that I got my GABF tickets!  Don’t know about GABF.  Check it out here! And just in case, here’s my recap from last year.

#2 We are going to see the Prairie Scholars tonight at the Waterfront Grille in Estes Park.  The menu looks great.  My goal is to try something adventurous tonight.  Game anyone?

#3 I think my tiredness from last week’s work trip has finally caught up with me. It’s been so hard to crawl out of bed the last two mornings.  Hoping a weekend of rest and fresh air will cure me!  But the work trip was great!  I mean, who can complain about a trip that involves big boats, golfing, and cocktail parties?

#4  Have you seen this video?  I shared it with everyone I could.  Melts your heart (and makes me want another puppy!)

#5 We are planning our wine country trip.  Can’t believe it’s already around the corner!

We were there with family two full years ago and we had an amazing time.  We are going to the Indy Car race and back to some of our favorites.  Any Russian River suggestions?  I will glad take any and all wine, beer, hike, and tourist stops that we must do!  Email me any suggestions at kemerselis (at) gmail dot com!

and with that, TGIF!

Monday Suds: Why we love City Star (and you should, too!)

Pardon my absence this last week!  Our house has been turned on it’s head once again so that we can get new carpet!  While I love the idea of replacing this, I don’t love the idea of lugging everything to and from the basement…

We took a break yesterday and helped John, Whitney, and the City Star celebrate anniversary #2!  This place has quickly become one of our favorites and now that the road between our house and Berthoud is open again, we have been there more often.CAM00759

Just want to share a few reasons why I love City Star!

1. Great beer!  It didn’t take long after the place opened for us to realize that these guys weren’t playing around.  Every beer has been unique and quality driven from the beginning!  Don’t believe me?  Check out this piece on their GABF medals!

2. Who doesn’t love Berthoud?  You haven’t been?  Hurry up and head north of Longmont!  Berthoud has a brewery, a distillery, and some cute little restaurants!  And it’s not as far as you think.

3. The team doesn’t take themselves too seriously!  Everyone has a good time and really seems to enjoy being there.  Don’t believe me?  Even the bathroom art was enjoying the party yesterday!

4. The new deputy mugs are pretty awesome!  Last year, the City Star team introduced the Deputy program!  This is an opportunity to throw your support behind your favorite brewery!  The Husband and I hopped in early last year and I was the first to put my name on the list!  And this year, we have upgraded from fancy pints to stand out mugs!  You can still sign up!  You just have to stop by the brewery and get signed up!

5.  And finally, City Star is always giving back to Colorado and their family!  Frequently, they are donating their space, a portion of the proceeds, or their time to help make their community better.  Hops and Harley is next on the calendar on June 29th.  You can find details (and a cute picture of Harley) here!

Congrats to John and Whitney and the whole City Star team!  You are all amazing and you deserve all the success in the world!

I’ll keep this short!

So it’s Friday and it is 75* out!  Who doesn’t love that?

Last night I was able to catch up with some blogging friends at the 34 Degrees event.  More info on this (and a giveaway!) next week.  It was so great to see one of the amazing companies that is part of the Fresca family at work!

And this weekend!  What am I doing?  I will be at the Echo 2nd Anniversary party.  Want to know what to expect?  Check out the event page here and my post from last year’s crazy party!  And I should be pouring beer for a bit between 1-6 tomorrow so come and find me!

Happy Friday!  Have a glass of wine for me!

What I learned skiing at Copper

This is my fourth winter in Colorado.  Every winter, we buy a set of passes for Eldora and I rent skis.  Once we get up to our tiny mountain on my sub par skis, I have a moderately cruddy time and turn in early.  I ski because it’s what the Husband wants to do and who am I to disappoint?  At least until it’s about lunch time…

Anyway, this year the Husband wanted to try something else.  We rented skis from a different vendor and headed up towards Summit County and Copper Mountain. We rented a condo and we were ready to go bright and early.  I studied the run map before we went to bed and woke up with knots in my stomach.  I didn’t think I was ready for this.

Lessson number 1, I was ready to tackle a bigger mountain!  I only fell a few times.  Unlike most times before, it wasn’t a frustrating experience to get my skis back on.  I got up and got going again!  We took a few breaks on the way down to correct my form and to re-discover my confidence but we made it!  I stuck to the same lift the entire time we were there and tried to stick to mainly the same runs down so that I would know what to expect.  I needed to feel comfortable for us to make it to the bottom without wiping out hard.  We skied all day with a brief stop for lunch.  Next time, I might get a little more adventurous and try something new but was my first time at Copper, I felt pretty accomplished.

Lesson number 2 of the day is the important one.  Know your limits!  I messed up my knee while I was in college and the left side definitely gets a little worn out more easily.  When I ski, my tired knee generally means less control of my left ski and more wipe outs.  When you feel like you are done, be done, or at least take a well deserved break.  Pushing yourself is good, but don’t push to injury.  Luckily, the Husband could see the concern on my face and knew that I needed to call it a day!

With the new confidence, bright snow green pants, and great day I found out that I may actually enjoy skiing.  20140216_135800

I will definitely be back to try it out again (any suggestions on places we have to go to?).  Once we were off the mountain, it was time to vacation my way!  We stayed the night at the Ameristar in Blackhawk and gambled the night away.  3 days of Colorado getaway was exactly the way for us to spend Valentine’s day weekend.

By the way, currently writing this on my flight home to Iowa for my little sister’s baby shower!  I’ve got an empty seat next to me and a little room to get the computer out!  A little R&R and family time is needed and I can’t wait to share all of the (pink) details.
